After receiving the highest award of the national music competition "Jugend Musiziert", the fourteen year old Elisabeth Glass gave her debut with the Deutsche Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin. Since then she has established herself internationally as a soloist of the highest order. As a sixteen year old she was the youngest recipient ever of the Yehudi Menuhin Competition Award in London and debuted with the Berlin Philharmonic, as well. Concert highlights of the last years in Europe and Japan were with, among others, the London Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Orchestra Santa Cecilia Rome, Orquestra Nacional d'Espagna and the Staatskapelle Berlin. She has worked with such distinguished conductors as Gerd Albrecht, Michael Tilson-Thomas, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Yehudi Menuhin, Kurt Masur, Christian Thielemann and Marc Albrecht.
Her repertoire covers a vast spectrum. The traditional works of the violin literature are, of course, the center piece of her repertoire; she fosters them with passion and is ever seeking a new approach to them. With great dedication she devotes herself also to lesser known works and contemporary compositions, as in her collaborations with Arvo Pärt, Ysang Yun and Marlos Nobre. Most recently she recorded the Piano Trio of the spanish composer E. Fernández Arbós.
Elisabeth Glass was born into a musical family. Her father and uncle occupy leading positions as violinists in prominent orchestras. Her brother is violist at the Komische Oper Berlin, her sister is a pianist. Elisabeth Glass began her training with Saschko Gawriloff, later studying with Thomas Brandis, Igor Ozim, Thomas Zehetmair, Zakhar Bron and Uwe-Martin Haiberg. She graduated with distinction from her studies in Berlin. Masterclasses with Nathan Milstein in Zurich also had a decisive influence on her artistic development. Her love of opera brought her to the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she has been concertmistress since 2004.
In addition to solistic appearances, Elisabeth Glass remains devoted to chamber music. Together with her sister and longstanding duo partner Julia she is a regular guest performer at the Berliner Festwochen, the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, the Schwestzinger Festival Performances, Spectrum Concerts and the Bebersee Festival. Among her reknown chamber music partners are Thomas Zehetmair, Markus Groh, Viviane Hagner, Alban Gerhardt and Jens-Peter Maintz.
The violin Elisabeth Glass plays was built in 1996 by Christoph Götting, who lives and works in London.
